Ethernet Advanced Physical Layer (APL) enables end-to-end intelligent connectivity across all levels of the process industry. Data and energy can be transmitted in parallel via a twisted pair cable using the 2-WISE concept (2-Wire Intrinsically Safe Ethernet). Ethernet APL is specially optimized for use in hazardous areas and for bridging long distances of up to 1,000 metres. The data rate of 10 Mbit/s enables efficiency and time savings compared to conventional technologies such as HART, PROFIBUS-PA or FOUNDATION Fieldbus.
