The Single Pair Ethernet System Alliance was founded 2020 by eight German technology companies as an association to promote and establish the SPE technology. Until today the focus is on the creation of a common market standard.

Together with our customers, we are shaping the digital transformation – with products, solutions and services for Smart Industrial Connectivity and the Industrial Internet of Things. The Weidmüller Group has production facilities, sales companies and representatives in over 80 countries and employs around 5,000 people worldwide.

In the factory of the future, machines and plants will be networked via a complete digital infrastructure. Weidmüller sees Single Pair Ethernet as the backbone of this digital infrastructure. Therefore, experts from different technology fields must enter into exchange and enable the participating companies to build up SPE know-how more quickly within the System Alliance.

Rosenberger is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of interconnect solutions in high frequency, fiber optic and high voltage technology. The global network always offers customers from a wide range of industries an optimized cost structure and outstanding local service. Rosenberger employs around 11,800 people.

The development of Single Pair Ethernet has its origins in the automotive industry. This development is based on two IEEE standards: 100BASE; T1 and 1000BASE; T1. Rosenberger played a leading role in standardization in both committees, especially in the areas of automotive connector design, signal integrity and EMC. We now want to use this existing know-how from automotive applications in automation technology.

The Prysmian Group is a world leader in power and telecom cable systems. With almost 140 years of experience, sales of over EUR 11 billion, approximately 29,000 employees in over 50 countries and 112 plants, the Group is strongly positioned in high-tech markets and offers the widest possible range of products, services, technologies and knowledge.

Industry 4.0 and digital buildings with the Internet of Things will massively change the way we live and work in the future. The associated applications will require upgrades to the physical cabling infrastructure. Key element will be “All-IP” and Power over Data Line (PoDL) network. Single-pair Ethernet (SPE) technology will migrate proprietary technologies and enable efficient integration of sensors and other small devices.

We see it as our task to work on any change in the physical transmission paths in power and communication networks. Therefore, working on SPE is part of our DNA. Saying “We have the SPE cable range” is not enough for us. We want to understand the complete solution. The “ecosystem” is the enabler here, which is only possible in a network of partners.
